BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Danticat was born in 1969 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
She was very young when her parents emigrated to New York City, leaving her in Haiti to be raised by surrogate parents. At that time, Haiti was ruled by President "Baby Doc" Duvalier and the ruthless Tonton Macoutes, who tortured and killed many Haitians.
